Ask a question about this product

The clamshell large (CSL) is an aircraft aluminum highly machined sprocket adapter for your gas powered motorized bicycle, which goes on the hub between the left and right spokes. When you go to clamp it on...make sure the 9 holes for the sprocket bolts are not blocked by the spokes. Also, the rim or lip on the adapter will face or point in the direction of the sprocket you will be mounting. Next comes the round disk....flat on one side and with a rim on the other side. Position the round disk so the flat side is out and the rim is pointed towards the clamshell. Next, place the gas powered motorized bicycle sprocket on the flat side of the round disk, and bolt it on. You will need to use the bent wire centering technique for centering the sprocket that we show you on our web site at wwwlivefastmotors.com. It is acceptable to file out the holes on the sprocket if necessary to center the sprocket.

Tips:

A. There is a rubber washer in the kit. Using it is optional if you need to space out the sprocket so that it lines up with the engine sprocket.

B. Most of our gas powered motorized bicycle sprockets have a bend on the edge. You can place the sprocket so the teeth are closer to the wheel, or you can flip it over and the teeth will be farther from the wheel. Choose the position that best lines up the wheel with the engine sprocket.

C. The clamshell large (CSL) is for a coaster brake bike. This sprocket adapter comes with a coaster brake space. This spacer is designed to bring out the bar so that it will clear the sprocket.

D. The CSL is designed so that it can be honed out to fit a larger hub if necessary. The honing can be done by a machine shop or you can do it your self with a drill and a grinding stone. Be sure to not grind out too much, just enough so that it still grips the hub.

E. As pointed out above, if the gas powered motorized bicycle clamshell does not fit your hub, some customers have had the hub milled or lathed out so that it would fit. Others grind out the CSL themselves, and still others have had a new hub laced into the wheel. Another remedy is to purchase another wheel for the bike so that the clamshell adapter can be used.

F. Using the CSL adapter allows you to discard the cumbersome traditional mounting nuts, bolts, crude rubber washers, and horseshoe backing plates that come with your kit....and allows you to do a professional job of motorizing your bicycle.

G. If you are using a gas powered motorized bicycle sprocket from another supplier it is possible that the nine-hole spread will not be the same as the sprocket.
